Sir Nick Faldo has confirmed that he will compete in the Senior Open Championship at the end of the month.

The six-time major champion, who celebrates his 60th birthday on July 18, will join a star-studded field at Royal Porthcawl as he tees up in his first European Senior Tour event since the US Senior Open in 2015.

Paul Broadhurst will defend the title he won by two strokes at Carnoustie last year, while two-time champion Bernhard Langer will be looking to emulate the remarkable victory at Royal Porthcawl in 2014, when he was in a class of his own in a 13-shot triumph.

Five-time Open champion Tom Watson is also in the field along with the likes of Faldo's former Ryder Cup team-mates Colin Montgomerie and Ian Woosnam, and the English veteran is looking forward to the challenge.

"Playing a little competitive golf is part of my own plan for celebrating my 60th birthday and I look forward to playing the Senior Open," said Faldo, who won his third and final Open crown at Muirfield 25 years ago.

"I have played a couple of Champions Tour events in the United States over the past month and know a little more about my game.
