The 40-year-old's impressive finish closed a level-par 71 at TPC Malaysia and saw her edge ahead of Shanshan Feng, Danielle Kang and Jacqui Concolino.

Feng had moved into contention with back-to-back birdies from the 16th but missed a putt at the last to force a play-off, while Kang had three birdies and an eagle over her final seven holes.

"I was so determined all day," Kerr said "Things were just not going my way. When I hit good shots, I'd get in some bad spots. That's just the way it goes sometimes in golf, but I stuck it out."

Kerr took a one-shot lead into the final round and doubled her advantage with a birdie at the second, only to drop back alongside Feng with a double-bogey at the seventh.

A birdie at the ninth - where Feng bogeyed - saw Kerr reach the turn two ahead, as Kang began her rise up the leaderboard after a short thunderstorm delay with an eagle-three at the 12th.

Kerr bounced back from a bogey at the 15th to birdie the next, only for Feng to capitalise on the American's blemish at the 17th to birdie the par-three and grab a share of the lead.
