Thomas Pieters is left trying to figure out how his ball didn't drop for an ace on the 14th during round three of the Turkish Airlines Open

Thomas Pieters added to the pin-peppering collection of shots at this week's Turkish Airlines Open as he was robbed of a hole-in-one on day three.

Pieters suffered the same misfortune as Justin Rose during the opening round in Antalya, with both near-misses taking place on the par-three 14th hole.

The Ryder Cup star took dead aim with an eight-iron from 170 yards and sent it on a good line, his ball pitching 20 feet short of the target and releasing towards the flag.

Pieters looked on in excitement as his ball hit the base of the pin, but it had slightly too much pace to drop for an ace and ricocheted off the flagstick to within inches of the cup for a kick-in birdie.

And, just for good measure, Ryder Cup team-mate Lee Westwood also came within a couple of feet of a hole-in-one moments later, although it was the third member of the group - Shane Lowry - who had the last laugh as he ended the day tied for the lead.
