Lee Westwood is level with Brett Rumford at the top of the leaderboard after two rounds of the World Super 6 Perth.
Westwood shot a second round of 70 to reach eight-under-par and draw level with defending champion Rumford, who followed his opening 64 with an even-par 72.
The tournament is played under an unusual format, whereby there are three rounds of strokeplay before the field is reduced to 24 players for Sunday - when a six-hole match play event will decide the winner.
Thorbjorn Olesen is also in position to contend after an impressive second round of 67 took him to seven under.
He is in a four-strong group one shot off the pace which also includes Lucas Herbert (69), Prom Meesawat (70) and Grant Forrest (68).
Conditions on Friday were windy and more difficult than day one and Westwood started with a bogey.
But he chipped in at both the fourth and the sixth to close the gap on Rumford, who made six pars in a row to start his round.
The Aussie managed to restore his two-shot advantage but Westwood hit his approach at the par-five 15th to six feet and holed the putt for eagle.
Rumford then dropped a shot at 17, before a Westwood bogey at 18 ensured the leading duo remain locked together.
