Amateur Julio Bell failed to make the most of his sponsor’s invite to the Club Colombia Championship, as he missed the cut in embarrassing fashion at the Web.com Tour event.

The 52-year-old only managed to register four pars during his 36 holes at Country Club de Bogota, hacking his way to scores of 93 and 105 to miss the cut on a staggering 56-over-par.

Bell defended his place in the field, posting on Instagram before later deleting it: "Four years of work in golf and there is still a long way to go.

"I ask a question: have you spent a lifetime practicing and that you are so good, that you have done for yourself, or better yet, that you have done for others? If you have no answer, do not criticise."

The Colombian, a former amateur boxer, was 26 shots off the pace after his opening round and then kicked off his second round with three consecutive double-bogeys.
