Patrick Cantlay produced an early contender for shot of the year with a stunning chip….from on the green!

The Californian was the joint leader after rounds one and two, and made the perfect start to his third round with a birdie on the first hole at Riviera Country Club.

But he bogeyed the second and looked in danger of dropping back further after pitching up on the wrong side of the famous bunker, situated in the middle of the green at the sixth hole.

But Cantlay - who claimed his first PGA Tour win at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in November - showed why he is regarded as one of the game's most exciting prospects, as he chipped over the bunker, brilliantly using the slope to bring the ball back to within inches of the hole.
