Charley Hull four shots off leader Pernilla Lindberg at ANA Inspiration

Olafia Kristinsdottir fired a hole-in-one on her ANA Inspiration debut during the opening round in California.

Pernilla Lindberg birdied her final hole to grab a one-shot lead after the opening round of the ANA Inspiration, as Charley Hull bounced back from a slow start.

Lindberg carded a blemish-free 65 at Rancho Mirage to get to seven under and leapfrog morning pacesetter Ayako Uehara and Spain's Beatriz Recari at the top of the leaderboard.

Jessica Korda and Ha Na Jang sit in the group in fourth spot, while Lexi Thompson - who received a controversial four-shot penalty on her way to a runner-up finish in last year's event - lies three off the pace after a closing bogey.

Hull reached the turn on one over and slipped further behind with a bogey-five at the first - her 10th hole - only to post five birdies over the closing stretch and stay in contention in the opening women's major of the year.

Lindberg, playing in the final group, reached the turn in 33 and added gains at the second and sixth, before picking up a shot at the eight and adding a seventh birdie of the day at the par-five ninth.

Thompson also posted a first-nine 33 and followed a two-putt gain at the third with a five-foot birdie at the fifth to get within one of the lead, only to hit a tree off the final tee to post a bogey-six and sign for a four-under 68.

England's Bronte Law and Jodi Ewart Shadoff sit in the group on two under alongside former world No 1s Lydia Ko and Inbee Park, as defending champion So Yeon Ryu struggled to an opening-round 75.
