Robert Karlsson will not play at this year's US PGA Championship at Hazeltine due to his longstanding left eye injury.
Swede has managed to play in just one major during 2009
Robert Karlsson will miss this year's US PGA Championship as he continues to struggle with an eye injury.
The Swede, who has not played since the European Open at the end of May, is suffering from a retina problem that is thought to be stress-related.
The issue with his left eye affects his balance as well as his vision. It has been diagnosed as a macular serous retinal detachment named central serous chorioretinitis.
The 39-year-old participated in a pro-am event before the SAS Masters in Malmo but has since returned to his home in Monaco for further tests.
Better
"His eye is much better but not totally good, so on doctor's order he will not play until after the next doctor's appointment on August 23," Karlsson's manager, Lilliam Jansson said.
Karlsson was the Order of Merit winner on the European Tour last season after winning the Mercedes-Benz Championship and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
However, his 2009 campaign has been hampered by the eye problem which forced him to miss both the US Open and The Open at Troon.
As well as not being part of the field for the final major of the year at Hazeltine, the 39-year-old will also sit out next week's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
