Woods crashes out after a 79

Billy Mayfair shot a second successive 68 to go one shot clear at the halfway stage of the Quail Hollow Championship in North Carolina. The 43-year-old, who does not have a top-20 finish to his name this year and is down in 174th on the Money List, leads former US Open and Masters champion Angel Cabrera by a shot. Mayfair - who has won five times on the PGA Tour but not tasted success since the 1998 Tour Championship - mixed seven birdies with three bogeys to finish on eight-under-par. Argentinian Cabrera would have had a share of the lead but for a bogey four at 17. He nevertheles signed for a five-under 67. Masters champion Phil Mickelson moved into contention as a 68 got him to six-under, two shots off the pace, but Tiger Woods crashed out after a 79. World number one Woods - who struggled round in 74 on Thursday - had six bogeys before carding double bogeys at 14 and 15 to finish on nine-over for the tournament.
