Finn makes Asian Tour history with Selangor victory

Joonas Granberg became the first Finnish player to win on the Asian Tour with a final six-under round of 66 earning him the Selangor Masters title. The 24-year-old, who had fired a new course record 62 on day one, saw off the challenge of overnight leader Panupohol Pittayarat by a single stroke, ending on 15 under at the Kota Permai Golf and Country Club. Granberg began the day four shots off the lead, but sank an eagle at the par-five first before adding six birdies and two bogeys to his card. "The eagle on the first was very good," the Finn told www.asiantour.com. "It relaxed my feeling so much. "Then I had a good birdie on the third and I was more relaxed. I just played it one shot at a time. I walked very relaxed and that was my secret. "I said yesterday that 66 would be okay and now I'm the winner. It's amazing." Panuphol started the day with a one-stroke lead over the field, but had four birdies and three bogeys in a round of 71 to finish behind Granberg. Australia's Adam Groom and Antonio Lascuna of the Philippines shared third place on the leaderboard. Groom also had an eagle on the opening hole and followed that with four birdies, but a double bogey on the 18th ended his hopes as he carded a round of four-under 68 to finish on 13 under - two behind the leader. He was joined in third by Lascuna, who birdied the last hole to complete a round of two-under 70.
