Olin Browne stayed in the lead at the US Senior Open after adding a second round 69 to his record-equalling opening effort of 64.
Overnight leader holds onto first place at US Senior Open
Olin Browne added a solid second round of 69 to his record-equalling opening-round 64 to remain one shot clear at the US Senior Open at Inverness.
The second round was cut short on Friday when the rain halted the action in Ohio with 21 players still out on course.
Browne, who took a two-stroke lead from Thursday, carded a double-bogey and a bogey on Friday but made up for that by claiming five birdies, two of which came on the tough closing par fours.
He'll go into the weekend on nine-under par, one shot clear of Mark O'Meara, who shot a 68 on Friday.
Mark Calcavecchia (67), Joey Sindelar (66) and Michael Allen (69) were two shots back while Australia's Peter Senior (67) was three strokes adrift.
Defending champion Bernhard Langer, returning after a four-month lay-off with thumb surgery, added a 69 to his opening 70 to be six shots off the pace.
British Senior Open winner Russ Cochran matched the German's scores as he continues his bid to emulate Langer and win the 'Golden Double' by adding the US Senior Open title to his collection this year.
Birdies
Browne made it clear after the first round that leading the tournament counted for little with so much golf still to play but holding his place after two rounds meant a lot more.
After matching dropped shots with birdies. he remained at level par for his round after 16 holes before a brilliant six iron from 185 yards out gave him an east roll-in for his fourth birdie of the day.
With his confidence up again at the final hole, he struck one of his best drives of the round and, from only 86 yards, put a wedge shot six feet from the hole for his second straight birdie.
The 52-year-old has previously won three events on the regular PGA Tour but has not claimed any victories in his 50 starts on the senior circuit.
O'Meara, winner of both the Masters and Open Championship in 1988, recovered well from some wildly wayward shots to keep the pressure on Browne.
1989 Open champion Calcavecchia shot a 67 that included four birdies and no bogeys.
