American makes his move with second round 66

Vaughn Taylor fired a blistering six-under-par 66 to leap to the top of the leaderboard at the Reno-Tahoe Open in Nevada. With the leaders from the opening round faltering, Taylor took full advantage as he moved to nine under. It was early on the back nine that he made his move, with a birdie on the 11th followed by an eagle on the par five 13th and a birdie on the 14th. "I hit a perfect drive down there and then kind of had trouble picking a club," Taylor said of his eagle. "The wind was kind of changing around. "I finally went with a five-iron and hit a really, really good shot. It just landed perfectly in the fringe, and it ended up just three, four feet from the hole, and those are always nice to have for an eagle." Will McKenzie is one shot back in second after a bogey on the 17th cost him a share, and he sits in front of a three-way tie for third between Hunter Haas, Steve Flesch and overnight leader Nick O'Hern.

Fighting

O'Hern could only manage a par 72 on Friday, racking up four bogeys including ones on the third and fourth holes that put him in early trouble. "I played well again, but just wasn't quite as sharp with the putter," O'Hern said. "Unfortunately the greens were a little bumpier, and there seemed to be a few crowns around a few holes, so it was pretty hard to get the ball in the hole today. "I think I'm still in good shape. I played well, but nothing really happened. I was kind of fighting uphill all day. "But overall I'm pretty pleased. I'm just a couple back with 36 to play, so it's not too bad." His fellow Australian Steve Elkington enjoyed the round of the day, signing for a seven-under 65 to join an eight-way tie for sixth place that also includes Chris Riley, who was second overnight but only managed level par on his second go around.
