In-form American leads by one at Colonial

Jason Dufner is on course for a third PGA Tour victory in five weeks with a one shot lead heading into the final round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational. Sunday's final round at Colonial promises to be a two-man shootout between Dufner and Zach Johnson with a huge seven-shot gap back to Tom Gillis in third place. Dufner fired a 66 to retain his lead over Johnson, who closed the overnight deficit on his playing partner by going a shot lower in the third round. Dufner opened with a birdie at the par-5 first and added another at the seventh while Johnson opened with back-to-back birdies and added another at the fifth to match Dufner for the lead at 12-under. Dufner birdied the seventh but Johnson again matched him for the lead by sinking a 26-foot birdie putt at the ninth, leaving them deadlocked at 13-under and five strokes clear of the field as they began the back nine. Back-to-back birdies quickly took Dufner back into a two-shot lead and another from just four feet at the next made it three. Both he and Johnson bogeyed the 14th but there was a two-shot swing at the short 16th as the former Masters champion sunk his birdie putt from 17 feet. They matched birdies at the penultimate hole to set up a fascinating final day at Colonial. "I've just been working really hard on my game," Dufner said. "Breaking through at Zurich a few weeks ago really gave me some confidence and I'm just trying to run with it." Dufner is looking to make history by becoming the first player to win both Texas events in successive weeks after his win in the Bryon Nelson Championship. He also won in New Orleans last month.
