So Yeon Ryu made the most of perfect scoring conditions to break the course record in the first round of the Canadian Pacific Women's Open.
The Korean carded nine birdies in a blemish-free round of 63 to sit atop the leaderboard on a day when 98 players shot level par or better.
Ryu had three birdies on her front-nine and then stormed into the lead with four more birdies in five holes around the turn, adding two more at the 17th and 18th.
But that was still only good enough for a one-stroke lead at the end of the day, with compatriot Na Yeon Choi making it round in 64 in very similar fashion.
Like Ryu, Choi carded three birdies on the front nine and then picked up shots on five successive holes from the first (her tenth) - she dropped a shot at the sixth, though, and added one more birdie in a 64.
One stroke further back is Sweden's Anna Nordqvist, who had seven birdies in a round of 65, while former world No 1 Inbee Park, Xi Yu Lin, Danielle Kang and Azahara Munoz all made it round in 66.
And there was a positive start to the tournament for Dame Laura Davies, who is handily placed in a tie for eighth after recovering from an early bogey to post six birdies in a round of 67.
