Pornanong Phatlum stormed into a three-shot lead after the third round of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
The Thailand star carded a third-round 65, six-under par, on a day when the pace-setters struggled and caused changes at the top of the leaderboard.
Phatlum's front-nine made all the difference as he picked up six shots, a seventh birdie coming at the 10th before a slightly disappointing run to the clubhouse.
She dropped shots at the 12th and 16th - both par fives - but did birdie the 17th to close on 14-under.
Japan's Ayako Uehara sits in second place on 11-under after a round of 69, with Korea's Chella Choi and Shanshan Feng of China one shot further back alongside Lydia Ko and halfway leader So Yeon Ryu.
Ryu looked to be in good shape when she reached the turn on 13-under thanks to birdies at the seventh and eighth, but her back nine was a tale of woe.
After picking up further strokes at 10 and 12, the Korean bogeyed the 13th and then finished with back-to-back double bogeys at the 17th and 18th.
Another Thai, Ariya Jutanugarn, made a big move from 35th to seventh with a superb round of 64 - she is on nine-under alongside Korean pair Ilhee Lee and Na Yeon Choi.
England's Jodie Ewart Shadoff dropped back to a tie for 10th after a one-over par 72 and first-round leader Stacy Lewis continued to slump down the field - after opening with a 65 the world No 1 has carded 71 and 72 and is now nine shots off the pace.
