At the 2011 Texas Open Kevin Na racked up the highest score at a par-4 since PGA Tour records began.

At some point on the golf course, we’ve all carded a horror hole that has ruined a round. For Kevin Na, that moment to forget came with the world watching and in record-breaking fashion at the 2011 Valero Texas Open.

Having just made his second birdie in three holes to move one-under for the day, Na posted a PGA Tour all-time record duodecuple bogey – 12-over-par – on the 474-yard par four ninth.

Undeterred after launching his tee-shot to the right and into dense trees, the Korean-born American took a penalty and tried again, only to produce an almost identical shot with his third stroke.

Not wanting to return to the tee, Na attempted to play out from deep within the trees, but saw his shot ricochet off a branch and then him for another penalty. With a further stroke added for taking a drop to give him a better line out of the troublesome trees, Na ended up seeing his seventh shot divert in to even thicker woodland.

Two swings left-handed only moved the ball a few feet closer to safety, with Na playing two further strokes to no avail before eventually clearing from the trees with his 12th.

Still some distance from the hole and with some confusion as to how many shots he had actually played, Na took three more strokes to find the green before sinking a five-foot putt to sign for a 16 for the hole.

Unsurprisingly, Na was unable to recover despite three birdies on the back nine, ending his opening round eight-over and eventually missing the cut.
