Donald Trump says Turnberry will be ‘a canvas like no other’ after his £200m redevelopment of the Scottish golf course.

The American tycoon, who has already built a luxury golf resort in Aberdeenshire, is in Ayrshire outlining his plans for Turnberry, which include several changes to the Ailsa Course.

Five new holes and nine new greens will be constructed, all 18 greens will be relaid and the course yardage increased to 7,357. All changes have been agreed with the Royal & Ancient.

Trump bought the resort for £36m in April 2014 and plans to spend £10m overhauling the clubhouse in time for the Women’s British Open, which begins on July 30.

The billionaire says the redevelopment represents a ‘very special time’ for Scotland.

“It’s a very exciting job. The Royal & Ancient have been absolutely incredible with us and given us tremendous advice. They love this place and it is very special to all of us.
