Francesco Molinari and David Lingmerth are among the latest group of six players to be added to The Open Championship field.

Molinari, the world No 43 from Italy, was outside the top 50 at the time of last month’s cut off but has now been rewarded for his consistent form in recent months.

Lingmerth, meanwhile, had failed to qualify for the US Open despite winning the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village earlier in June.

However, the Swede will now make his Open debut at St Andrews in July.

The other four players teeing-up at the Old Course are Aussie Matt Jones, South African Tim Clark and American duo Harris English and Daniel Berger – the latter is a PGA Tour rookie.

Meanwhile, South African Branden Grace, Cameron Smith of Australia and Ireland's Shane Lowry have accepted special temporary membership for the remainder of the current PGA Tour season.

The trio all produced strong showings at this month's US Open at Chambers Bay after which the three non-Tour members had more FedExCup points than the player who finished 150th on last year's list.

Both Grace and Smith tied-for-fourth at last week’s US Open, while Lowry was ninth.

They are eligible for unlimited sponsor exemptions for the remainder of the Tour season as they attempt to earn their cards for next year through the non-member money list or non-member FedExCup points list.

Special temporary members are not eligible for the FedExCup play-offs in August and September – unless they win an official tournament.

The trio join Patrick Rodgers of the United States and Englishman Danny Willett who also became special temporary members earlier this year.
