Ahead of the 146th Open coming to Royal Birkdale, Everton manager Ronald Koeman and captain Phil Jagielka go head-to-head in a golfing challenge

Everton manager Ronald Koeman took on defender Phil Jagielka and former striker Graeme Sharp in a special Open Challenge ahead of the 146th Open at Royal Birkdale in July.

The Premier League club have established a partnership with the R&A to help promote golf's most prestigious championship, which returns to the famous Southport links for the 10th time this year.

Renowned coach Simon Holmes, a regular in the Sky Sports studio, was on hand along with Sky Sports News HQ presenter Adam Leventhal to oversee a three-way contest at Everton's training ground.

The disciplines included pitching towards a pair of goals, with extra points on offer for hitting the back of the net in the smaller target, and the trio's short games were put to the test again in a nearest the pin challenge.

The competition was completed with a long putt battle, so who would get their hands on the famous Claret Jug?
