If you feel like awarding yourself a prize for a hole-in-one, you may want to consider joining the BOSS Watches H1Club.
Over a million pounds-worth of BOSS watches have been presented to golfers around the UK and Ireland who have achieved the Holy Grail of the game.
The BOSS Watches H1Club now has over 7,000 members, with almost 2,300 receiving watches for a hole-in-one during the second half of a hugely successful 2014 for the campaign.
There are well over 1,000 golf clubs in the UK and Ireland who had at least one member winning a watch last year, with ages ranging from 10 to 84.
Statistics compiled by the H1Club offer interesting reading, while the campaign has also produced some memorable stories. Two members managed the remarkable feat of scoring two aces in one round, while a pair of identical twins made a hole-in-one within a month of each other.
One lucky golfer in Nottingham recorded the fourth ace at the same hole of his club, and another managed no fewer than three aces in an amazing 15-day period.
Figuratively speaking
The data offers an insight into which golfers are most likely to score a hole-in-one and the ways in which they are likely to do so; it also provides a fascinating headline figure of the number of aces scored by members in club competitions – it may be a lot more than you think.
Headline figures from April to November in 2014 include:
- 1,082 different golf clubs in UK and Ireland had a member who received a watch.
- 2,295 watches were awarded by BOSS Watches H1Club in the 2014 season (Apr-Nov)
- 11% of the watches went to women golfers
- 72% of the winners were aged 46 or above
- The oldest winner was 84, and the youngest just 10 years of age
- The longest ace was 408 yards – believed to be a new UK record!
- Yorkshire was the most successful county with 183 aces, narrowly beating Lancashire's 178
- The most successful city for aces was Dublin, with 49
- Two Scottish clubs, Alyth and Murrayshall, led the way with 10 aces at each
- 28 holes-in-one last year were at par-fours
The campaign continues into the 2015 season, and a BOSS spokesman said: “We are delighted with the continued success of BOSS Watches H1Club and the charming human-interest stories it generates. These stories truly give life to a campaign that touches the lives of so many amateur golfers, regardless of age, gender, or ability. It is our hope that the personal side of golf continues to thrive through the H1Club.”
