Brother and former caddie insists loyalties now lie with Kaymer
Luke Donald's brother and former caddie, Christian, has backed the world number one to go on and break his major duck next year.
The Englishman has enjoyed a quite stellar season and, having won the PGA Tour money list in sensational style last weekend, is poised to complete an unprecedented double by capturing the European Tour's Race to Dubai crown as well.
Christian feels his sibling has now developed the killer instinct needed to win the game's biggest prizes and feels a major is within his grasp - provided he continues to put in the hours on his driving.
Killer instinct
"In the old days he used to try too hard and he was accused of not having a killer-instinct. I always knew he could have that - it was just a case of how soon," Christian explained. "Now it's almost as if he's free-wheeling.
"A major is definitely a next step he can make next year. I think he's got to drive a little straighter, but he's working hard on it. If he does get that right, I think he will win one next year."
Christian believes that Augusta - where Donald finished fourth back in April - represents his brother's best opportunity of opening his major account.
"We've found out over the last few years that he seems to have his best chance at the Masters," he continued. "A lot of pundits have said you've got to be a long hitter - Zach Johnson (2007 winner) proved that isn't the case.
"Augusta is a course where you've got to be precise and straight. A course where he's in control is where he has his best major chance.
"With the British Open, I think there's more luck involved. I think British Open courses take his wedge play out of his armoury."
New partnerships
Donald ended his eight-year partnership with his brother at the start of the 2010 season and now employs John McLaren to carry his bag.
Christian has now joined forces with Martin Kaymer and will be working with him at this week's Andalusia Masters at Valderrama where the German will try to close the gap to Donald at the top of the Race to Dubai standings.
But, despite the family ties, Christian insists there is no question where his loyalties lie, adding: "I'm now the opposition. I'd love to see Martin go number one and knock Luke off the perch."
