The Sanderson Farms Championship is facing a Monday finish after only 40 minutes play was possible on Saturday.

The event in Jackson, Mississippi, had suffered a slight delay on Thursday and five hours more without play on Friday, but Saturday's weather proved even less kind.

A total of 76 players are yet to complete their second round, with six groups yet to even start, and a number of players have already withdrawn including possible contender Will Wilcox, who was four-under-par after his opening round, and Sweden's Robert Karlsson.

Play is set to resume early on Sunday morning, with the weather forecast much better.

After the second round is completed, the third and fourth will be played, but tournament officials are prepared to extend play into Monday if 72 holes cannot be completed by darkness on Sunday.

PGA Tour rules official Steve Carman told the Golf Channel: "We should be able to start round three somewhere around 12.45, play a couple of hours before sunset and then come back on Monday morning to finish round three.

"We will keep them in the same groups so will start round four before we finish round three. The last group will hopefully tee off in round four somewhere about 11am on Monday, and five hours later we'll be done."
