American hoping to return in December following brain surgery
J.B Holmes has revealed he is making excellent progress in his recovery from brain surgery and is excited about his prospects next season.
The 29-year-old, who played in the 2008 US Ryder Cup team, underwent an operation in September in which a small piece of his skull was removed to relieve pressure on his brain.
The surgery was a success and Holmes, who prior to the work was experiencing symptoms of vertigo, headaches and issues with his balance, is confident his game will improve as a result.
Indeed, Holmes believes that the issues arising from his condition - eventually diagnosed as Chiari malformations - were costing him four or five poor strikes per round.
Pressure
"I didn't realise how much pressure there was until it was gone," he told
Golfweek. "The doctor said there was more than he had thought before the surgery.
"I'm anxious to see if I'll be a little more calm and easier on myself.
"I'm excited and really looking forward to getting back. I think it will be a big difference for me, so I'm very optimistic about the upcoming year."
Looking to step up his rehabilitation over the coming weeks, the two-time PGA Tour winner hopes to make his competitive comeback at the Greg Norman-hosted Shark Shootout in December.
