Sergio Garcia shot a third-round 66 to move into a one-shot lead in the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina.
The Spaniard, who is seeking his first win on the PGA Tour since his Players Championship title in 2008, shot a four-under par third round at Sedgefield Country Club as the halfway leaders struggled.
He had two birdies on the front nine and managed three more on his way back to the clubhouse, with his only dropped shot coming at the 14th.
Garcia found some trouble on the final hole, with his approach failing to find the putting surface, but he produced a superb chip to within eight inches to make par and ensure his place at the top of the leaderboard.
"Obviously I would love to be two, three shots better but I'm in a good situation," he told the PGA Tour's official website.
Tough
"It's going to be a tough day, there's no doubt about it. A lot of very good players behind me are trying to achieve the same thing I'm trying to achieve.
"Hopefully I'll go out there in the final round, play well again and give myself a good shot at winning."
His nearest challengers are America's Bud Cauley, who also shot 66, and playing partner Tim Clark, who made it round in 67 to reach 13-under.
Three more players sit one shot further back including previous Sedgefield winner and joint course record holder Carl Pettersson and Jason Dufner, who made the biggest move of the day with a flawless seven-under 63.
But it was not a good day for the final group, with defending champion Webb Simpson and halfway leader Jimmy Walker failing to break par.
Walker made a birdie at the 18th to get back to 11-under, three off the pace, but he and Simpson (-10) will not have been happy with their matching rounds of 71.
