Greenbrier Classic: Billy Hurley III still in front; Angel Cabrera moves into contention

Billy Hurley III doubled his advantage at the Greenbrier Classic, a third round of 67 giving him a two-shot lead heading into the final day of the tournament in West Virginia.

Having shot a bogey-free seven-under-par 63 to move one ahead at the top of the leaderboard on Friday, Hurley kept himself clear of his rivals despite dropping a shot on both the front and back nine.

The 31-year-old, who is seeking his first PGA Tour success, started out with a birdie at the first and although he gave that shot back at the third, he quickly made amends at the next to move back to 10 under par. He gained another just before the turn, then back-to-back birdies at the 12th and 13th put him three clear.

However a bogey at the 15th cut his advantage and he finished off with a hat-trick of pars to sit on 12 under.

"Played nicely today and look forward to doing it again tomorrow," said Hurley. "I've been working for a long time to win on the PGA Tour. Hopefully I can get it done tomorrow." ]

Contention

His nearest rival is now Angel Cabrera, the Argentine  - looking for his first non-major win on the PGA Tour - having fired himself into contention with a superb score of 64 that saw him birdie four of his opening six holes at the Old White TPC.

"I hit it really good off the tee. I am very happy," said the former dirt poor caddie from Argentina.

Kevin Chappell sits alone on nine under, the American signing for a 69, while no fewer than seven players are locked together a further stroke back.

Americans Michael Thompson, Cameron Tringale, Will Wilcox, Joe Durant, Steve Stricker and Chris Stroud are all there on eight under par, along with Camilo Villegas of Colombia.
