Highlights from the first day of the Wyndham Championship.

Three players share the lead after the opening round of the Wyndham Championship, where Tiger Woods posted his lowest round in two years.

William McGirt, Erik Compton and Tom Hoge are all tied at the top of the leaderboard on eight under after a day of low scoring at Sedgefield CC, with Jim Herman, Derek Ernst and Morgan lurking one off the pace.

But it was Woods, in need of a win this week to guarantee entry in to the FedExCup play-offs, who produced the day's big talking point, opening with a season-best 64 to stay within two of the lead.

The world No 286 is tied for seventh alongside Germany's Martin Kaymer, who also needs a strong week to break in to the top 125 of the standings, Swede Carl Pettersson and Davis Love III.

McGirt set the early pace with a bogey-free 62, with Compton moving alongside him after finishing his round with four consecutive birdies.

Hoge, part of the final group to tee off, looked set to threaten the outright advantage when he moved seven under with five holes still to play, but needed a gain at the last to make a three-way tie for the lead.

Last year's winner Camilo Villegas kicked off his title defence with a four-under 66, with former world No 1 Adam Scott a further shot adrift.
