Ladies European Tour: Teenager Charley Hull closes in on Order of Merit title
Thursday 11 December 2014 07:06, UK
Charley Hull goes head-to-head with Gwladys Nocera this weekend in a bid to become the youngest winner of the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit.
The 18-year-old from Kettering tees-up in the OMEGA Dubai Ladies Masters where she will partner Nocera in the opening two rounds.
Nocera needs a top-four finish to have any chance of depriving Hull of an historic milestone.
However, Hull is unconcerned that her nearest rival for the title will be walking the fairways alongside her over the opening 36 holes.
She says: “I don't mind playing with Gwladys. It doesn't bother me too much. I played with Holly (Clyburn) last year when we were fighting for the Rookie of the Year.
“I'm not playing her. I'm playing the golf course and the rest of the players in the field. So I'm just going to go out there and have fun. You can keep an eye on her but I don't mind really to be honest. I don't really watch my playing partners too much.
“She won last weekend and that was a great tournament to win. It shows how much experience she's got, and to win under the pressure, if she gets top-four this week, she can walk away with it.”
As for the event itself, Hull is employing a simple philosophy: “I just want to play one shot at a time and finish on a good week.”
The highlight of her season was a victory at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco where she beat Nocera after a play-off.
The 39-year-old Nocera, meanwhile, topped the Order of Merit six years ago and is a 13-time winner on Tour.
She recently won the Indian Open in Delhi to set up this week’s shoot-out in Dubai.
