Hyundai Tournament of Champions: Zach Johnson moves into share of lead

Defending champion Zach Johnson moved into a four-way tie at the halfway stage of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.
Johnson carded a second-round 67 at the par-73 Kapalua Resort and he shares top spot with first-round leader Russell Henley, Ryder Cup star Jimmy Walker and Korea's Sang-Moon Bae.
Scoring conditions were again decent on the island of Maui, and Johnson was among a number of players to make the most of them as he made seven birdies, including one at the last to join the leading group.
Last year's winner, also a Sony Open champion, loves the challenge Hawaiian courses provide and he is looking forward to the weekend.
"When it comes to execution with the wind and trajectory control, they're very similar," he said. "I like that kind of golf.
"I was trying to go the week without a three-putt, but I failed on that one. So we'll try to leave it to one three-putt."
Henley's day started badly when he missed a tiddler at the second to drop a shot, but he was error-free from then with a birdie at the fifth and three more coming home at the 10th, 13th and 15th.
Walker looked like leading on his own when he went out in 32, helped by four birdies, and he made it to 12 under before dropping a stroke at the 17th.
Bae had three straight birdies from the fourth and picked up another shot at the 10th, but his charge stalled over the final seven holes with a frustrating run of pars as others made ground.
Just a shot behind the four leaders sit another five players on 10 under; Patrick Reed, Robert Streb, Brendon Todd, Hideki Matsuyama and Charley Hoffman.
The best rounds of the day came from Matsuyama and Hoffman, who both carded rounds of seven-under-par 66.
Matsuyama bounced back from an opening bogey with eight birdies and Hoffman was even more spectacular in his round, barring a mistake at the tough 17th which cost him the chance to lead outright.
He had two birdies going out but then picked up birdies at six out of seven holes until the 17th, where he found the water and dropped two shots.
The top 10 is rounded out by Scott Stallings on nine under, after he dropped two late strokes, while Matt Kuchar (-8) and Bubba Watson and Jason Day (both -7) are well within striking distance.
