Swede holds nerve to edge out rivals on day five in Florida
Swede Daniel Chopra secured his maiden PGA Tour title at 132nd attempt as he held his nerve to emerge victorious on the fifth day of the Ginn sur Mer Classic at Tesoro.
The Swede had been forced to return to complete the last three holes of his final round after bad light saw play suspended late on Sunday.
He started Monday morning level with compatriot Fredrik Jacobsen and Japan's Shigeki Maruyama on -18, although his rivals only had two holes of their final round left to play.
Jacobsen made a fine save at the par-three 17th to keep his hopes alive, but Chopra made his decisive move at his first hole of the day - the par-five 16th - where a birdie four edged him one stroke clear.
Jacobsen and Maruyama both parred home meaning Chopra, after a par-three at 17, needed just a par down the last to clinch victory.
Pressure at the last
He did not make it easy on himself as he found sand with his drive to leave a tricky second, but a solid approach left him with two putts from 20 feet for the title.
Chopra nearly clinched victory in style with a birdie three, but, with his putt just having lipped out, he was more than happy to tap home from a matter of inches to break his PGA Tour duck.
Jacobsen and Maruyama shared second place with that result good enough to ensure the Japanese player's card for next year.
American Dicky Pride - who shot a splendid 64 on Sunday - finished fourth on -16, with Ken Duke, Cameron Beckman, Charlie Wi and Sean O'Hair tied for fifth on -13.
Englishman Greg Owen finished just outside the top 20 in a tie for 21st after a disappointing final round of 74.
