Melissa Reid believes she and playing partner Carlota Ciganda have the momentum to win their Solheim Cup fourballs match when it resumes on Saturday.

Bad light forced an early close of play on the first day in Germany, Reid and Ciganda's match left with only one hole to go and everything to play for.

Carlota Ciganda and Milissa Reid are all square with Kerr and Thompson after Ciganda's incredible shot at the 17th.

When the light began to run out, American's Lexi Thompson and Crristie Kerr were 1 up with two holes to play. Whilst their team-mates back on the 15th elected to finish, the third group decided to play on in the darkness.

After winning the 16th hole, Europe seemed to have the advantage of momentum and then Ciganda holed her second shot from the fairway for an eagle two on 17, winning the hole and leaving the match all-square with one hole left to play.

While Reid and Ciganda wanted to play on, Thompson and Kerr did not, and play was suspended.

"We were not surprised," Reid told Sky Sports. "The light is quite bad and we have a lot of momentum so they are not going to want to play. We have to come back tomorrow focused and ready to play.

"Lexi was playing unbelievably and was probably eight or nine under on her own ball, but we have managed to claw it back to all square."

Ciganda, whose second shot on the 17th span back 12 feet into the hole, added: "It's unbelievable. I have no words to describe how happy I am to hit that shot in this moment with all the fans here."

In the final match, German pair Sandra Gal and Caroline Masson were one up on Gerina Piller and Brittany Lang with three holes to play, raising the possibility of a 4-0 session whitewash for the home side.
