Inbee Park birdied the final hole to secure sole ownership of the lead after the opening round of the LPGA Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico.
Park, who has four victories this season including two of the five majors, sunk a 15-foot putt at the 18th to close the day four under par after a 68 and sit one clear of South Korean compatriot So-Yeon Ryu, Norway's Suzann Pettersen and American Angela Stanford.
Park, making her first start since withdrawing in China two weeks ago because of a cyst on her left middle finger, enjoyed an eventful 18 holes, picking up birdies in the first three before dropping a shot at the fourth.
She recovered that at the very next hole before her first two pars at six and seven were followed by another birdie at eight to reach the turn in 32.
She returned in level par, with bogeys at 11 and 16 offset by birdies at 13 and 18.
Pettersen is a shot back after a bogey-free 69 that included three birdies around the turn, while Stanford was unable to maintain a hot start having moved three-under after three thanks largely to of an eagle-three at the par-five second.
Stanford is coming off play-off loss to Sun-Ju Ahn last week in the Asian Swing finale in Japan. She won the inaugural tournament in 2008 in Guadalajara
