American still on for his first US Tour victory after the second round

Bo Van Pelt shot a four-under par 68 to take a one-stroke lead over Jerry Kelly at the halfway stage of the Puerto Rico Open on Friday. The 32-year-old American posted six birdies and two bogeys to stay top of the field and is still on course for his first US Tour victory. "I just tried to take advantage of coming down here," he said. "I didn't want to just waste the trip." "It's been good so far. It's just the halfway point, but we've enjoyed the resort." Kelly, ranked number 63 in the world, produced the day's best score of 66, but missed a five-foot birdie putt at the last to tie for the lead. "I've cleaned up my missed shots to where they're just off the green now and my good shots are to where I'm giving myself good birdie opportunities," Kelly said after his round. The field is still wide open though with Ted Purdy (68) two strokes behind at 10 under, while Greg Kraft (66), 24-year-old qualifier Ryan Blaum (66) and Briny Baird (68) are all one shot further back. This event is the first full-field sanctioned PGA Tour tournament ever held in Puerto Rico.
