Nick Dougherty looks ahead to a big week at the Wyndham Championship

Nick Dougherty reflects on his presenting debut during Ryan Moore's win at the John Deere Classic and describes the emotions the players will be facing at this week's Wyndham Championship.
The quality of the golf at the John Deere Classic was good from start to finish, on a golf course which wouldn't have been easy to hold a lead on.
If it had been Ryan Moore eating in to Ben Martin's lead, and not the other way round, then it may have been a very different back nine, as Martin had a different agenda this week following a poor season and not yet having his future secure.
It's not easy to stay aggressive when you have a considerable lead, but that's what Moore did to spread out his advantage and give him the cushion along the closing stretch.
The final round was arguably the dullest of the four as it was solid but unspectacular stuff from Moore, whereas the previous day we had seen a couple of 62s and some phenomenal golf.
Moore was still trying to make birdies even with his five-shot lead though, as he knew people can shoot whacky numbers around TPC Deere Run, which is the mentality that multiple PGA Tour winners have.
It was obviously a bit nerve-racking, but it was great fun presenting there on Sky Sports for the first time. It felt like the good nerves and the sense of anticipation I used to feel when I was playing well.
I already had a huge amount of respect for what our presenters do, but to experience it first hand in Illinois has made me appreciate their work even more!
Presenting is a different discipline that I am having to learn and it's slightly weird as I'm still playing a little bit aswell, but it's something I'm really enjoying and hopefully will be able to do more of.
They say that variety is the spice of life and the feedback I have received since on social media has been largely encouraging and positive, which is great.
Big week ahead
For me, from the outside looking in, it's a great psychological week at the Wyndham Championship because there is just so much on the line for many of these guys involved.
If you part of that bubble trying to keep your card, which I have been before, then this is a horrible week that you can't wait to be over and hope finishes with the right outcome.
What I find interesting is that here in America they just talk about making the FedExCup play-offs, rather than the risks of players losing their PGA Tour card.
When you're in that position as a player, like Morgan Hoffman was last week, then the talk of the play-offs is just the line given to the press. Players just don't want to engage with the true emotion they feel, which is the concern that their playing privileges and their potential livelihoods could change in one tournament.
It won't be such of a concern for the likes of Retief Goosen or Geoff Ogilvy, who have already achieved so much in the game, but will massively affect those who financially can't afford not to be on tour.
For many playing this event, what they can lose is at the forefront of their mind more than the potential gains and positives. The best thing to do is just to go out there and play golf, but that's easier said than done when the negative thoughts can all-too easily come in to the mind.
We'll see some real heroes deliver some great performances this week. I remember covering this event last year and remember seeing the elation on some of the players' faces once they knew they'd done enough.
At the other end of the spectrum, we've got Rickie Fowler here this week as he looks to make his stand for a spot at Hazeltine. He's looking to find some form and make himself an easy pick for Davis Love III, or ideally do enough to open up a card back and secure an automatic place in the team.
There's also Jimmy Walker here as he makes his first start since the PGA Championship, which is a big shout given the amount of golf he has coming up.
This week is a great chance too for players to get a big boost in form and a ripple of confidence heading into The Barclays and the play-offs.
There are also the guys playing here who are already assured of finishing in the top-125 but are already thinking about getting into the week after The Barclays.
Ideally, they'll be looking to give themselves a buffer and get as high up those standings as possible, so everyone will be throwing everything they've got at this tournament.
We're set for a highly emotive week at Sedgefield Country Club for so many players for so many reasons, so we'll be trying to keep a track of all of the story plots during our live coverage.
