Johnson and Hudson claim victory in Alicante

Trish Johnson and Rebecca Hudson combined to lead England to a five-stroke win in the inaugural European Ladies Golf Cup in Alicante. The duo combined to produce rounds of 64, 70, 65 and 71 at La Sella Club to finish clear of Belgium and Germany who tied for second. It was a sweet triumph for Johnson and Hudson especially who was a replacement for Kirsty Taylor who missed the event after undergoing brain surgery. Despite holding a five-shot lead going into the final round, the English pair did not have things all their own way as Belgian duo Lara Tadiotto and Ellen Smets got into a position to challenge. However, three birdies on the back nine settled English nerves and confirmed an ultimately comfortable victory. "We gelled perfectly," said Johnson who was quick to pay tribute to the Belgium team for their final round efforts. "The two Belgian girls were absolutely fantastic. They deserve better than what they got actually in the end but they played great and they pushed us all the way."
