Halfway leader Oberholser slips back
American Kevin Sutherland shot a seven-under-par round of 63 to take a one-stroke lead at the Frys.com Open in Arizona.
The American leads his fellow countryman George McNeill after a bogey-free round on the Raptor Course at Grayhawk Golf Club got him to 14-under-par.
The 44-year-old Sutherland's only previous victory on the PGA Tour was at the 2002 WGC World Matchplay.
McNeill bogeyed the third hole but was then faultless throughout the rest of the day as he carded a 66.
Americans Paul Goydos and John Mallinger and Australian Steve Allan are tied for third, two shots off the pace.
" I felt great about how I played today," said Sutherland. "I hit the ball very well, but I putted even better. I putted terrific, especially on the front side.
"I've played terrific all year. Obviously I haven't won. This is my last tournament of the year so it would be great to cap it off with a win."
As for Sunday's final round, Sutherland added: "I'm going to try to do the same thing I did the last three days, just have a good time.
"I just came here with such a relaxed attitude because I know that come Sunday evening, I'm going to be going home for almost three months.
"It's kind of nice to have that as your fallback, to spend some time with the family and just enjoy life a little bit."
Overnight leader Arron Oberholser slipped back into a tie for eighth, four strokes off the lead, after shooting a one-over 71.
