Letzig got his bid going with three consecutive birdies from the sixth hole on the Conservatory Course in Palm Coast.
The 28-year-old hit the turn in 32 shots and came up with three more birdies on the back nine as he bids to add a victory to his four top-ten finishes this season.
By contrast Jones is without a top-15 in his last 21 starts and is facing a real battle to retain his card for next season.
