Spaniard continues battle with brain cancer

Golf legend Seve Ballesteros could be moved out of intensive care as early as next week, according to the hospital that is treating him. Ballesteros was diagnosed with a brain tumour following his collapse at Madrid Airport early in October and has spent the past month in the Intensive Care Unit of Madrid's La Paz hospital, undergoing three operations during that time.

'Favourable'

Since the last of those operations on October 24, the 51-year-old's condition has improved sufficiently for the hospital to announce that they are considering moving the five-time major winner out of intensive care. "The neurological evolution of the patient Mr Severiano Ballesteros remains favourable," read a statement from La Paz hospital. "He continues to receive rehabilitative treatment and it is likely that he could leave the Intensive Care Unit next week and be moved to another ward."
