Vijay Singh will reportedly undergo knee surgery after this week's Mercedes-Benz Championship that will sideline him for around five weeks. According to the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, the Fijian will go under the knife to repair a torn meniscus in his knee. Singh is understood to have informed PGA Tour officials of his impending operation after Monday's practice round at Kapalua and will subsequently withdraw from the Sony Open in Hawaii next week. The 45-year-old enjoyed a stellar 2008, winning on four occasions and topping the PGA Tour money-list with $6.6 million, having won the FedEx Cup play-off series. His resurgence saw him climb back up to number five in the world and he is the top-ranked player in the field in Maui this week with Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington absent. Singh has been paired alongside defending champion Daniel Chopra of Sweden in Thursday's first round of the 33-man event that he himself won in 2007.
