Geoff Ogilvy maintained a one-shot advantage after the second round of the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Hawaii.
The Australian moved to 11-under for the tournament after carding a 68 on Friday at the PGA Tour's season opening event.
He is one clear of DJ Trahan with Ernie Els a further stroke behind in third.
Ogilvy collected five birdies on the front nine of Kapalua's Plantation Course, including a run of three straight from the fourth, and was six-under for the day after making another at the 15th.
But his flawless streak - he opened with a bogey-free 67 on Thursday - came to an end when he bogeyed the 17th, before a par at the final hole ensured his place at the top of the leaderboard.
"I'm happy where I am," said Ogilvy. "I played really, really well the front nine and made a bunch of putts. I didn't hit many good shots, but made some putts.
"On the back nine, I couldn't really make a putt. I birdied the 15th and then finished a bit rough which is frustrating."
Trahan charge
Trahan fired a seven-under 66 that featured seven birdies and an eagle, offset by two bogeys as he moved from a tie for ninth after an opening-round 70 up to second spot.
"I'm really, really pleased with the way I played today." said Trahan, who has played very little golf over the last three months while spending most of his time hunting for moose and deer.
"I enjoy hunting a lot. I spent several months doing pretty much nothing but that.
"For me, hunting is as much for fun as it is to spend time with friends. And when it was time to get back, maybe two weeks ago, I started picking the clubs back up again."
Els remained in contention despite a poor front nine that included a pair of bogeys. The South African improved on the back nine, posting birdies at the 13th, 15th and 18th as he finished with a four-under 69 to improve to nine under.
Anthony Kim is part of a six-way tie for fourth after firing a 68 to join Kenny Perry (71), Sean O'Hair (70), Ryuji Imada (70), Johnson Wagner (71) and Davis Love III (70) on seven-under-par.
Defending champion Daniel Chopra completed his second round with a four-under 69 and is two-over overall while 2007 winner Vijay Singh, who will undergo knee surgery following the event, is level-par after posting consecutive 73s.
