Hedblom an inspiration to all

Peter Hedblom's thrilling one shot victory at Gleneagles should inspire every player on the European Tour according to Sky Sports expert Mark Roe. Hedblom held off a marvellous comeback from Martin Erlandsson, who hit a final day 62, to win the Johnnie Walker Championship - the Swede's third Tour title in 364 attempts. Having ranked 155 in the world just three weeks ago, Sunday's triumph marked a significant turnaround in Hedblom's fortunes, and Roe believes the Gleneagles winner will be a sight for sore eyes right around the European scene. "This shows all golfers just how close they are to turning their seasons around in a couple of weeks," Roe told Golf Night. "At 155 in the world, Peter's going nowhere, he's losing his card and having a shocking season. Within two weeks he's lost a play-off in Holland and then comes to Gleneagles and wins the Johnnie Walker. "All of a sudden the prize money, the race to Dubai, the confidence is all reversed. This is what every Tour Pro should learn; don't get too down on yourself because a good week is never that far away. "If you're good enough to be on tour, you're good enough to win championships."

Crisis of confidence

Denis Pugh added to Roe's statement, suggesting there are plenty more 'Peter Hedbloms' all suffering a crisis of confidence down the rankings. "Confidence is a huge thing, you see these top players each week performing well but the players near the cut or on the mark...their confidence goes. "They don't lose their talent, they just lose confidence and belief in themselves. "The most important thing Peter did today was par 17 and 18. It sounds easy, but the hardest thing to do under pressure in professional golf is two-putt."
