Tim Petrovic and Leif Olson share the lead at six-under-par after the opening round of the Turning Stone Championship - the opening event of the PGA Tour's Fall Series.
The American duo overcame inclement conditions to sign for respective rounds of 66 at the Atunyote Golf Club in Verona, New York and move one clear of Matt Kuchar, John Senden and Vaughn Taylor.
Petrovic chipped in twice on his way to collecting seven birdies and just a lone bogey, while rookie Olson's best round on the PGA Tour also featured seven birdies.
"It was cold. It was raining," said Petrovic, who has four top 10s this season but is winless since 2005.
"We didn't have the trifecta, though. The wind was down, which was the only thing that was saving us out there."
Petrovic was particularly impressive with his long irons, sacrificing distance to concentrate on keeping the ball in the fairway to take advantage of "lift, clean and place" provisions.
"I think I made three birdies, three or four birdies maybe, from 200 yards or right around that," he added.
Scott resurgence
Adam Scott, a captain's pick by Greg Norman in the International team for next week's Presidents Cup, had seven birdies to offset a bogey and double bogey during a four-under 68, a score he shared with six others including fellow Australian Matt Jones.
"I made a lot of putts," said Scott. "I putted really well, was solid all the way through.
"Still some work to do with the striking, but I'm getting there with that, too."
Englishman Justin Rose, Scotland's Martin Laird and Fredrik Jacobsen from Sweden are the best-placed Europeans, all three players part of an 11-man group on three under.
