Open returns after four-year hiatus

The 2010 Asian Tour has been boosted after the Myanmar Open was confirmed on the schedule. After a four-year hiatus, it has been confirmed that the tournament secured a slot in April for the upcoming season. The Myanmar national championship was previously won by Scott Strange, all the way back in 2005 - edging out Thai star Thongchai Jaidee. An extra incentive for the participants may be the $300,000 US prize pot on offer when the tournament takes place from April 8-11th. When speaking to the Asian Tour website, executive chairman Kyi Hla Han was delighted at securing the tournament and is hoping this will continue to help the game grow.

Delighted

He said: "On behalf of our talented players, I would like to express our fullest appreciation to Air Bagan and IBTC for their wonderful support and initiative to revive the Open. "After this involvement with our first Asian Development Tour event last week, we are honoured that both organisations have now extended their support by helping to revive the Myanmar Open. "As a player-led organisation, the Asian Tour will continue to grow the game across the region and create playing opportunities for our talented members." Myanmar's most recognisable player Zaw Moe is hoping that the tournament will help to improve the standard of golf in the country. He added: "It's always special to play in front of your home fans. "I'm looking forward to it and I will be ready to give my best."
