Westwood to play alongside Mickelson at HSBC Champions event

New world number one Lee Westwood has been paired with Phil Mickelson and Y.E Yang for the opening two rounds of the WGC-HSBC Champions event in Shanghai. Westwood, who replaced Tiger Woods at the top of the rankings on Monday, returns to action in China after three weeks off recovering from his persistent calf injury. He will tee it up alongside defending champion Phil Mickelson who himself missed several chances to claim the number one ranking this season. The American went into no fewer than 12 events this year with the opportunity to topple Tiger Woods but was unable to do so on any occasion. Woods is also present at the star-studded event in Shanghai this week and has been drawn with Ernie Els and US Open champion Graeme McDowell. Westwood, Mickelson, Woods and and PGA champion Martin Kaymer all have the chance to go to number one this week should they win in China.
