Rockliffe Hall, the longest course in the UK, and one of the most highly-rated new courses in Britain, has announced a major new tournament.
Leading amateur event confirmed at North East course
Rockliffe Hall, the longest course in the UK, and one of the most highly-rated new courses in Britain has announced a major new tournament.
The Northern Golf Masters has been launched by the County Durham venue - which is owned by Middlesbrough Football Club chairman Steve Gibson.
Rockliffe, which is also home to Boro's training ground and academy, is being tipped to be a PGA venue in the near future and they already play host to the William Hunt Trilby Tour.
They now hope the launch of the Northern Golf Masters will only enhance their reputation for being one of the highest calibre new golfing venues in Britain.
The tournament itself will take place on Sunday 19th August 2012 at Rockliffe Hall and the scratch competition will be for category one golfers.
The format will be of a professional tour event with first tee announcements, ball spotters and up-to-the-minute live scoring.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place and the event is already attracting key sponsors.
Over 100 people are expected to enter the Northern Golf Masters and places are limited so anyone interested is advised to confirm their place now by contacting
Rockliffe Hall.
Free to enter
The tournament is free to enter and concessionary rates for practice rounds are available for anyone confirmed as participating.
Rockliffe's own touring professional Graeme Storm said: "Rockliffe Hall offers a really challenging course for golfers of any level.
"The state-of-the-art facilities make it an ideal location for the inaugural Northern Masters as it is certainly one the best courses I've ever played. This tournament is a great opportunity for club golfers to put their name on the map as it's one of the most exciting amateur golf tournaments to have been launched in a long time."
Director of Golf at Rockliffe Hall, Ian Knight, added: "We offer the highest standards of facilities which have been recognised by some of the UK's leading names, including our touring pro Graeme Storm. As a Championship golf course, many tournaments are held here every year but we wanted to hold an event for the hundreds of high-quality club golfers from across the North.
"There's a real appetite for this sort of competition and it promises to be a great day with activities for the family to enjoy as well."
