Kraft Nabisco Championship: Michelle Wie, Lexi Thompson lead, Charley Hull lurks

Michelle Wie and Lexi Thompson share the lead going into what should be a thrilling final round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, with Charley Hull just two shots back after a sparkling third round 66.

Ten years after making her debut in the event as an amateur, 24-year-old Wie has a real chance of winning her first major and just her third LGPA title after a bogey-free 68 moved her to 10-under alongside Thompson.

19-year-old Thompson held a share of the overnight lead alongside South Korean Pak Se-Ri, but a three-putt bogey on the 18th saw her drop into a share with Wie, setting up a big-name showdown on Sunday.

"I think Lexi is a really entertaining golfer," Wie said. "I like to think I'm somewhat entertaining as well. So, I think the both of us paired together is great. I think it's great for the tour and it's going to be a lot of fun.

"I probably won't sleep that well. It's just the chance. You want something so badly. I dreamed about this all my life, so I'm just trying to not think about it so much. I'm just trying to think it's a normal Sunday. But I think that's a good thing. It's a sign that I'm really excited and I really want this."

Big-hitting Thompson also missed two short putts on her front nine, but a three-under 69 still represents a decent round, even if she did start to feel the nerves herself.

"Not the ending I wanted," Thompson said. "I'm getting looks at birdies and just waiting for a few more to drop.

"I think if you're not nervous, you don't care. But it's a good nervous. This is what I've been waiting for and what I've worked my whole life for."

England’s Hull came flying into contention with a six-birdie, bogey-free round of 66 at Mission Hills, to move her on to eight-under and just two shots behind the leaders.

Hull turned 18 last month, just after claiming her maiden title in Morocco, and a triumph would make her the youngest major winner in LPGA Tour history.

36-year-old South Korean Pak cannot be counted out though, as she led at one stage after three early birdies and even a bogey run on the back nine still left the five-time major winner just two off the pace.
