Open Championship: Victor Dubuisson buzzing after run of birdies

Victor Dubuisson bounced back from an early bogey to post a third-round 68 in the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.

The 24-year-old Frenchman holed six birdies to shoot up the leaderboard at Hoylake, sitting in fifth position at eight-under.

While he might still need slip-ups from the leaders to genuinely challenge for the title, the Frenchman, playing in just his fourth major, hopes to have put himself in a position to make an impact on the final day.

It was a great round because I started with a bogey on the second hole but then I had some great birdie opportunities and my putting was good.

Dubuisson, who announced his arrival at the top level by reaching the final of the WGC-Accenture Match Play in February, said: "It was a great round because I started with a bogey on the second hole but then I had some great birdie opportunities and my putting was good. I am very pleased.

"It is always better to be at the top of the leaderboard than down. Tomorrow I will try to do my best and if the putts go in it can be a good day."

Dubuisson felt he took advantage of good scoring conditions throughout his round.

He said: "I think that is why most of the players shot under par today. It was a little bit softer, although the pin positions were trickier."
