Jessica Ennis-Hil competes in long jump and javelin in Loughborough

Jessica Ennis-Hill is targeting this summer’s World Athletics Championships in Beijing as she continues her comeback after giving birth to her first child.

The reigning Olympic heptahlon champion, who returned to action in the 110m hurdles at last weekend’s Great City Games in Manchester, competed in the long jump and the javelin at Sunday’s Loughborough International Athletics meeting.

“I’d love to be at the worlds - that’s something that is still definitely on my radar,” Ennis-Hill told Sky Sports News HQ.

“But I’m just taking this month and next month as it comes, doing the competitions that I’ve got planned and just building on them. But I hope to be at the worlds. That’s definitely something that remains in my sightline.”

The 29-year-old finished third in the long jump after a 6.16m leap and sixth in the javelin with a throw of 43.88m at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium.

“I’m a little disappointed because my standards are still where I left off in 2012 so I want to make big improvements,” Ennis-Hill said afterwards. “But at the same time I’m having to lower my standards slightly and get back in the swing of things.

“I’m happy to have come and done two events. I think just over 43m in the javelin is not too bad for my first throw of the season so I’m reasonably with happy that. My long jump needs a bit of work but I’m out here jumping and competing so it’s great.”
