Eugene has found itself in the sporting spotlight ever since the Oregon city was awarded the 2021 World Athletics Championships.

The city, with a population of 160,000, is also known as 'Tracktown, USA' because of its close connections with the Nike corporation, which had it's origins in Eugene.

While questions remain about the IAAF decision to award the 2021 event to Eugene without a bidding process, Sky Sports News HQ reporter Gary Cotterill found the locals in defiant mood when he paid a visit to the Pacific Northwest.

He delves into the history of the city and the strong connections with some of the pioneers of track and field in the USA - and finds preparations well underway as they look forward to welcoming the world in six years time.
