British hurdler Andrew Pozzi was happy to brush off the cobwebs and get his outdoor campaign under way in China.
The 27-year-old Sky Sports Scholar, now based in Italy having linked up with Cuban coach Santiago Antunez, was in Shanghai at the Diamond League and eased home in sixth place, clocking 13.39 seconds.
Jamaican Omar McLeod won the event on Saturday evening with a time of 13.12s.
"I am happy with my season opener," Pozzi said. "It's always good to get racing after such a long period but you never know what to expect.
"I was a bit rusty and despite a good start it took me a while to find my rhythm.
"I made some mistakes so I'm confident with a few more races I'll see some good improvements, which is really exciting."
Pozzi is desperate to get back on track after a challenging indoor season.
He admitted in his Scholar blog earlier in May that the campaign had been "mired in injury, culminating in finishing sixth at the European Indoor Championships" but he had been boosted after two months of "hard work, building and progress" in Italy.
Former Sky Sports Scholar Holly Bradshaw finished eighth in the women's pole vault in China.
