Alistair Brownlee was a comfortable winner of London’s race in the 2015 World Triathlon Series.

The Olympic champion clocked 50 minutes and 39 seconds, crossing the line 12 seconds clear of Spaniard Fernando Alarza.

It was 27-year-old Alistair’s second win of the season, as he enjoyed his triumph in front of an enthusiastic home crowd in Hyde Park.

Frenchman Vincent Luis was third, a further six seconds back, but it was a disappointing day for Alistair’s younger brother Jonathon.

The Olympic bronze medallist could only finish 42nd, almost two minutes adrift of his sibling as he clocked 52:29 after suffering a mechanical fault during the cycling segment of the race.

And the younger Brownlee was not even the second best Briton, as he finished behind Adam Bowden (20th) and Grant Sheldon (38th).

South African Henri Schoeman and Richard Varga of Slovakia led the 750-kilometre swim before Alistair took the lead during the four-lap bike race around the Park.

Alistair then made his move on the opening lap of the running segment and admitted: "Some of the guys went really quick during the first kilometre of the run.

"I then got into my stride and felt really good. I was glad to be able to race to the best of my ability. I haven't done that for quite a while."

Despite his absence, Spaniard Javier Gomez Noya maintained his lead in the overall standings, while Alistair is up to fifth – two spots ahead of his sibling.
